You and I are Earth
You and I are Earth
160cm x 61cm
Oil on canvas
This is the third painting in my triptych, created after having my second baby. It reflects the loss and expansion I felt, missing the simplicity of life with Avery, while opening to a new kind of love and joy. It also carries memories of severe pregnancy sickness, fear of doing it all again, and the strange balance of strength and fragility. The words “you and I are earth,” taken from a 17th-century plate found in a London sewer, remind me of our shared humanity, fragility and strength and our return to nature. My creative process is often fragmented, painted in small bursts between breastfeeding, school runs and bedtimes, yet that rhythm has become its own momentum. Very much in the @babesinarmsart spirit.
I’ve taken inspiration from my previous painting ‘Bright about us shall ever be’ of my life with Avery before including my dog Bracken who died a month before Delphi came.
